Liga MB Round 12: Leader Aguila gets another victory

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Leader Aguila delivered the ninth win on Thursday night. This time they crushed 8th ranked El Rapido (2-8) 85-51 in San Miguel. Aguila held El Rapido to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 53.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Aguila looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by El Rapido's players. The best player for the winners was Guatemalan Jose Barahona (189-99) who scored 25 points. point guard Martin Ramos (171-92) chipped in 17 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Venezuelan forward Darwin Jaramillo (192-86) who recorded 17 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Aguila maintains first position with 9-1 record. El Rapido at the other side keeps the eighth place with eight games lost. Aguila will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. El Rapido will play at home against Brujos (#5) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 88-81 loss to fourth ranked Santa Tecla (7-3) in Chalchuapa. It was a good game for center Carlos Arias (200-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 16-of-21 shooting from the field). Luis Portal contributed with 15 points for the winners. Santa Tecla's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-87, college: App State) replied with 30 points for Chalchuapa. Defending champion maintains fourth position with 7-3 record. Chalchuapa at the other side still closes the standings with ten games lost. Santa Tecla will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chalchuapa will play on the road against Fantasmas (#6) in San Vicente and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 12 Cojute crushed Santiagueno in Cojutepeque 112-87.



Chalchuapa - Santa Tecla 81-88

Bottom-ranked Chalchuapa (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 88-81 loss to fourth ranked Santa Tecla (7-3) in Chalchuapa. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 34. Santa Tecla forced 20 Chalchuapa turnovers. It was a good game for center Carlos Arias (200-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 16-of-21 shooting from the field). Santiagueno - Cojute 87-112

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Santiagueno (1-8) was crushed at home by seventh ranked Cojute (3-7) 112-87. Cojute forced 19 Santiagueno turnovers and outrebounded them 54-40 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Santiagueno's players. The game was dominated by American players. It was a good game for swingman Zekiah Owens (197-98, college: AIC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Chris Moten (190-89, college: LA Pierce JC) contributed with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Cojute's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Xavier Eaglin (201-97, college: PVAMU) replied with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) added 30 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Santiagueno. Cojute maintains seventh position with 3-7 record. Santiagueno lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with eight games lost. Cojute will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santiagueno will play at home against Santa Ana (#3) to get more than just one victory in their record.
